ATLANTA- October 1st, 2008, Atlanta City Council, will proclaim Thursday, October 30th, 2008, DONNIE MAC MC CORMICK DAY in Atlanta, Georgia, not just to mark his 64th birthday, but to honor the richness of McCormick's artistic contributions to the music community. An all-star tribute to the iconic co-founder, songwriter, lead singer and drummer of Capricorn Records' legendary, Southern Rock pioneers Eric Quincy Tate, (EQT) band will celebrate the occasion at Northside Tavern, 1058 Howell Mill Rd. Complimentary birthday cake and champagne kick off a full night of music with an early start at 7:30pm featuring Piano Reds music by Devereaux followed by Chris Long of 'Reddog' and Oliver Wood. McCormick's CDs will also be for sale. 'Door Donations'.
Health concerns will keep McCormick from performing, however, his influence will be seen and heard on stage through musicians, who have played with or been mentored by McCormick, from the mid- 60's to present- including his son, Josh McCormick. Heaven Davis, Jazz/Blues Diva will M.C. this Star Studded event performing along with other sizzling local favorite Blues/R&B bands. Guitar wizard, Wayne "Bear" Sauls and other EQT band mates; Blues Empress, Sandra Hall; keyboardist elder, from the Ink Spots, Eddie Tigner; Little Brother; Lola; Charlie Wooton's Zydefunk; Mud Cat; Nate Nelson; Sammy Blue; Ralph Rodenberry, Aaron Simpson; Ross Pead, Dave Roth and Stephen Talkovich of Uncle Sugar, Jon Liebman and the Electromatics and Joe McGuiness are a few of the artists who will share their musical talents under the direction of the ruckus rousing acclaimed house band, the Breeze Kings.
Rumor has it that possible surprise appearances by Tony Joe White, singer/songwriter and co- producer of EQT first album on Atlantic Records; and, Atlanta hit maker, singer/songwriter, Joe South, recording artist with Lowery Music, could highlight the evening.
Owners of Northside Tavern, Ellyn Webb and Fat Matt's Rib Shack, Matt Harper are joining forces to
make this an annual event that promotes original music. Webb and Harper said, "It is really heartfelt to see the respect and love fellow artists and Roots music fans have for Donnie."
McCormick is an example of courage, self-expression, creativity and proof that it is possible to succeed while marching to your own drum! It will be a rare night of rhythm!
